There is no doubt that the office has become a much different environment over the last few years from a fashion point of view. Once upon a time, it was all about three-piece suits. Now, while anything doesn’t quite go, there is a lot more flexibility. Here we are going to share the three major mistakes that men make while going to the workplaces.
Most Common Men’s Office Fashion & Dressing Mistakes to Avoid at Workplace
Most of the time, guys will head over to somewhere like REISS, whereas a few decades ago the common approach might have been high-street tailors. As such, times have certainly changed, and through the course of today’s guide, we will hone in some big mistakes that men are still making when it comes to dressing for the office environment.
Mistake #1 – Taking the gym bag to work
Let’s get one thing straight, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with taking your gym bag to work. After all, modern-day life appreciates the man who works out, and this shouldn’t change.
However, there are ways and means to do this. Taking a sweaty gym bag to work is hardly a fashion success. This is something that plenty of guys do though – and don’t think anything of it.
Instead, you have to be shrewd with your choice of gym bags. Sure, it might contain sweaty garments, but at least make it look premium from the outside. Choose bags that are made out of the likes of leather and also allow for office equipment, such as a laptop.
Mistake #2 – You dress too far down
There’s no doubt that we are in the era of dressing down, and the office has become a much more relaxed environment. Like anything though, there are limits.
Don’t make the mistake of dressing too far down. This tends to happen too much nowadays, with guys turning towards trendy loungewear that might make them look the part – but just not in the office.
Instead, if you are in the mood of dressing down, at least do it in parts. Dress down on the upper parts, and stay formal downstairs. Or, vice-versa. Don’t, under any circumstances, rock up to the office in completely casual clothing. At least in 2018, we haven’t yet got to that stage.
Mistake #3 – Everyone can spot your undershirt
Another modern-day office problem, particularly if you don’t work in a hot country, is that your undershirt is there for all to see.
Let’s clarify something first; there’s nothing wrong with an undershirt. After all, this is something that can prevent others from spotting those dreaded sweat patches, and that can only be a good thing.
However, there are ways in which you should wear one of these garments. As soon as you lose your tie, or undo your top button, your undershirt becomes visible to all. The simplest way around this is to strategically pick your undershirt. In other words, if you sway towards a V-neck you’ll receive all of the sweat-disguising benefits, but without showing off to the world that you have only achieved this by wearing a shirt underneath.
